C Is The Most Interesting Alphabet!

Isn’t it obvious that C = Creative?
Well, I have so much to share in this post!

Unexpectedly, my ‘C’ post take longer than I planned because I have so many ideas in my head but I don’t know where to begin with.

Please forgive an ENFP person where she often has an abstract mind and thinking can happen quickly and wildly. Connections between items, people, or situation can be made funnily whether they are in the same category or completely different.

That’s how she gains inspiration and often evolve into creative idea out of nowhere (sometimes it can happen in the car while driving, while walking under the rain, watching tv, eating sushi, seeing Beta fishes dancing their tails, listening to dad’s infamous vocal, or… in the toilet..) however, her biggest weakness is to focus in one thought. Seriously, it is hard.

Even when I am writing right now, I will look at my facebook and observe if I get a new like, wondering what is Calvin doing, recalling the memories on proposal,  thinking if my today’s lesson is good enough, what to write in my assignment and is my hair long enough? #narcicism #complicatedbrain.

If you could have a micro size of body and been placed into my brain, I bet you wouldn’t wanna stay there as it’s super messy and disorganized but one thing for sure is that you will gain a colourful and artistic habitat *what?*

Well, I do have some data that I could share about the messiness and complication of the brain. I mean my brain!

The data begins with my Form 6 (pre-U) biology notes that I took in 1 year +

IMG_5939 My lovely notes –
I don’t even remember why I choose the word ‘lovely’.
Anyway, I am glad that I still keep my 2006 notes!

Note: Sorry for the low quality of photo. I am using phone which is the easiest and quickest way to upload.

Probably, this is what they refer to as ‘creativity’ in a nice and super fabulous term which can be a good excuse to continue the ‘messiness’. Anyway, I love to be referred as a creative person rather than nothing because the word creative itself gives me a sense of freedom and flexibility. That’s why I love the alphabet of C!

Yay!

Besides C = Creativity,
Also C = Calv or Calvin.

I know, I know… I owe you guys my Part 3 Love Story. I am feeling super duperly sorry for procrastinating my post. Well, only if you still remember the Part 1 and Part 2 la. Or else, you can always read them now or later. I am not giving any excuse this time and I am promising you that the Part 3 love story will be in my among my A-Z post. So, yes.

The alphabet of ‘C’ besides being part of my value and personality, C also becomes one of the important person in my life. I have introduced him before during in the year of 2011 when we started dating with the blogpost title: Calvin Seet. Now, he is my fiance *whoot*.

 IMG_2616

Each day, I am thankful and grateful to God for showing him into my life. Life has become even more colourful with his presence. His care and love have given me a reason to look forward for what life has for me. Thank you Calv for your love, care, patience and wisdom. You’re an amazing person and I love you. That’s why I fall in love with the alphabet of C!

Besides C = Calv
Also C = Compassion

I am a person who is emotionally sensitive and can tear pretty easily when I see the suffering of others – if I allow myself to dive in to their experiences of thought and emotion.  I am not a crybaby since small because I was trained not to cry no matter in whatever situation. Hence, when I grow up, I have difficulty in expressing myself with tears until I met these amazing lecturer in University of Malaya and understand the power of tears. So, I open up and let me be myself.

Through strong compassion, I find another strength in me where I can understand and connect to others more deeply. This has increased my openness to learn in whatever trigger my interest most. Probably that is why I am interested in Counseling, and now teaching as it can help me to help them from the suffering. That’s why I admire the alphabet of C!

Besides C = Compassion
Also C = Chinese.

I am a Malaysian Chinese. I love my race. I love the culture. I love my identity. I love my Chinese-look eyes (finally). I love my black hair. Do I have to explain why I am proud with the alphabet of C?

Besides C = Chinese
Also C = Celine Dion
That’s why I admire the alphabet of C!

Besides C = Celine Dion
Also C = Conan (Anime: Detective Conan)
That’s why I am crazy over the alphabet of C!

Besides C = Canon
Also C = Champion.
Malaysian can be pretty ‘kiasu’. We like to strive for excellence. Hence, champion is what we love to hear. That’s why I chase over the alphabet of ‘C’!

Besides C = Champion
Also C = Chin Hui, Cheang May May
They are my close buddies. That’s why I am always happy with the alphabet of ‘C’!

Exploration Of A So-Called Photographer

It was 6.15am in the morning when my before-lost-phone *sob*rang with its familiar ringtone.  I had made a date with Jane to go for a short visit at Taman Botani Perdana, some where at the edge of KL.

I have always wanted to play with my D-eggie for so long ever since he became part of my family. However, I hardly find a suitable time, mood and people to play with and yesterday was a good timing I must say.

Because:
“School holiday makes curryegg a happy egg!!”   <------------ Totally random

We reached there about 8am (my first time driving there) and the place was kinda of quiet. We spotted a few joggers and cleaners. That is fine because the quiet morning with cool breeze are just what I missed so much. I was rejoiced by the sound of birds’ chirping and gooses squeaking. Lol.. exclude the gooses. Don’t know where they come from pun..

As I walked around the garden, I recalled some of the photography scenes which I gained  from Eric and his gang back in year 2008  when he invited me to be his model. It was a fun and flattering experience when you have 9 photographers all together in that 4 hours for 2 models (Mamak was together with me too).. You can see some of the photos of myself back in 2008 with the funny-yellow-hairband.

And now, I am the so-called photographer after 4 years and making Jane to be my model.. *feeling proud*

jane24

We spent nearly 4 hours at the garden and I managed to get these much of photos. So here are the result.

8.00am – When the sky was still hazy and gloomy. Less light. I didn’t know her black shirt will turn out all right with black color background.

Lesson learned: Never try, never know.

jane2

jane5

Pretty love her natural expression here when she was trying to scratch her leg as a result of mosquitoes love bites. Note: Please bring mosquito repellant with you when you go outdoor shooting! You don’t want your photo be ruined by your unhappy expression!

9am – When the sky almost started to rain.
We found a tourist bus here and started playing around. The effect is pretty good.
By the way, I suspected my phone fell at this place. Bad bus T.T

jane8

jane6

9.30am
– The rain stopped and the environment looks fresher than ever. That is why Jane did some exercises and tai chi poses. Lol..

jane10

This was also the place we spotted gooses! Can you spot the couple?

jane11

Next, she continued with her Bollywood pose. Just, this time she came out from bamboo tress which is slightly different compare to usual Bollywood scene =P

jane9

jane16

Tried to snap the flying seeds clearly but unsuccessful. Still a good picture for me… :)

10.10am -
The sun was out and the effect was pretty good. I like how the camera capture the light of my model and the leaves. The yellowish+greenish effect of the plants make my picture look good. Oh, can you see the Bokah effect? This time it is the shape of circle and I managed to do that with some manual setting. First attempt! =D

jane21

Don’t you just love her smile? So natural =)

jane23

10.40pm -
The light was still good. Captured this at a nearby staircase. I like the grey in color background. It helps her to stand out when she was wearing black in color blouse but not so much for her pants.

jane1a

11.10am -
We came to this playground area when the sun released warmer air and hurtful sun ray. This was the moment you spotted several groups of wedding photographer team. Many couples came here for their wedding photography despite of races. Should I come here too? No.. too common. I think i want pink color leaves trees or blue ocean as background. Or Eiffel Towel as the companion or sitting on a gondola?

I want romantic feel.
Wahhhh~ *imagining myself as a princess*

Ok. Back to my photos. The atmosphere became quite bright and objects’ color turn out to be very sharp. However, some photos can be over-exposed with the strong lighting.

jane26

Also, one of my favorites <3

jane27

There was a moment when I took this photo and I purposely isolate this from the rest because it brings out a different kind of feel. I turned it into Black & White photo with her cool expression. The effect is pretty good. I did jokingly tell her in FB yesterday that she looked like someone from the ‘Zaman Kesultanan Melayu Melaka’ because of her scarf! Hahahahaha… That is what I saw in KBSM History Text Book on Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat attire XD

jane7

Still a nice photo of her. Credit to Jane Ho =)

I will show you 3 photos of myself, taken by Jane but before that I would want to explain something first. I didn’t expect to snap any photo of myself and a day before the photography session, my brain had already convinced me to wear something black with jeans because that is what a professional photographer will normally wear.

Wanting to look like a photographer, I dress myself like what my brain instructed with a pony tail and no make-up. Obviously, I did not expect any camera will point at me. Plus, I was pretty sleepy and no mood for one. However, Jane was good in convincing and in the end, she managed to get me pose. So here are the 3 photos which I find quite nice.

Ignore the imperfection if you spotted.

kelly1

kelly2

I edited this photo with my own quote and has already become my FB cover photo. Hah… Someone just commented on this photo that I look like a secondary school student. Well.. thank you and I should never ever let my students see all these >.<

kelly3

I pretty like how the red bag stand out.

It was a great experience being a photographer when you could communication and work well with the model. Both Jane and I find it easy to help out each other. Well, because we were good, old friend. But I wonder how will it feel to be a photographer for a stranger(s)? Would I get such a positive experience too? Or ended up being stressful?

Anyway, my question now is… am I eligible to be a photographer?
If yes, say “Way to go CurryEgg”. If not, say “Good job, Eggie”. Lol.. this is what I did to my students. Guess, my teacher’s persona come out once in a while too =P

Anyway, time to continue my assignment! I miss blogging long post with latest photos like this. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

P/s: My model look great even with no make-up. Thus, I am happy to share photos of myself with no make-up too because I think small eyes deserve attention too, like hers. Lol.. being random again.

P/s/s: Self confident is the key for beauty.

3 Little Pigs and A Big Bad Wolf On A4 Paper

It was my last day in Penang, when my niece and I had a one-to-one moment at the living hall after having lunch together. She asked for a pen and a piece of blank paper. I gave her and she offered me a story which she’s learned in school.

cute girl

This was how the conversation took place. It’s a children classic story of ‘3 Little Pigs and A Big Bad Wolf’.

*****

Niece: Kelly gugu (which means aunty in chinese), I tell you a story.

Me: Ok. What’s that sweet heart?

Niece: *start drawing 3 imperfect circles with few black dotes*
There are 3 little pigs and they are brothers for each other. One day, the mother asked her children to leave the house and build their own houses.

Me: Em.. hm.. ok. Then?

Niece: The first pig built a straw house. The second pig built a wooden house. The last pig built a stone house *her right hand was drawing those houses out*

Me: Wow.. interesting. So?

Niece: One day, a wolf come. He went to the first pig and say, “pig ah pig.. open the door or I will blow your house”. The first pig say, “No.. no.. you naughty wolf. Go away”. The wolf laughed and immediately blew the house and the house was gone. So the first pig ran into second pig to hide himself. The house was blown by the wolf and both of them ran to the last pig *continue sketching*

Me: Aiyo.. scary lor.. then, then? *making myself interested*

Niece: Yes.. It’s scary. So the wolf try to blow the house but this time, the house can’t be blown away. The wolf climb.. climb.. climb.. to the roof and go into the chimney  and kelly gugu.. guess what happen?

Me: Emmm… dunno oh dear. What happen next? *pretending not knowing*

Niece: hahahahaha… I don’t want tell. Go ask teacher.. *stop drawing on the paper with tougue sticking out*

Me: Uh? Come back.. come back.

Niece: Haha.. Kelly gugu so stupid… 笨

Me: o________O!!
Today’s child is so naughty.

P/s: I think it’s creative to tell story while drawing the objects out. My niece has grown up and I happy to see that =)

My Academic Research On Blogging As Self Therapy

Normally, I don’t really reveal my name in my own blog or other Social Network Sites (SNS) especially like Twitter and Facebook because to me, my real name is private. Or maybe I think Kelly Tan is pretty enough to describe me. Yes?

However, it is a bit different today. I reveal my long name here for the very first time (I suppose) because I am proud with my GOLD IN COLOR NAME on my academic research. Though I have made this nearly couple of months ago, still I am a proud owner of this boring-black-in-color-hard-cover-academic-research-book. Why am I calling it in such a long term? If I can blink my book, I will. Lol.

Anyway, it is interesting because of the title *wink*

I do look like a nerd. Well, this is the time where I can claim that I’m proud to be one with that book holding in my hand.. =D

I score A- for this work and is ready to present it in an International Conference next week (well, I am not really satisfy with my work but that is the best I can give despite of the time limit, exhaustion from personal issues and lacking of resources. Anyway, I have over come them pretty good and it’s over).

So, yes. It’s next week babe. Frankly, I am crazily nervous. I have not… em… well, I presented once last year in a conference in my university but that was different as I have other 5 members to backup. This time, I am presenting my own research topic and it is about BLOGGING!

thesis2 My juniors can check my work out in our faculty library. Sounds cool to me ^^

You heard me? BLOGGING!!!

*Whoohoot*

The title of my academic research:

“A Phenomenology Research On Blogging Experience and The Possibility of Self-Therapy For An Undergraduate Student In University Of Malaya”

A friend of me once told me nonchalantly that I can treat my future client/patient by asking them to blog daily for counseling purposes. And I was like, “Hey! that’s a real good idea”. Lol.. So now, who wanna be my clients? =P

Haha.. Well, wish me luck. Really. I. Need. Blessing.

Kids Are Creative

I still remember, years before this when I was completing Dr.Diana’s homework, I did explain on why I want to work with children and family population when I become a counselor in future. The reasons are pretty simple. Children are cute, genuine and innocent. They don’t need to cover themselves with masks to please anyone. However, these innocence and originality are easily ‘contaminated’ by the environment, especially by adults’ expectation. Simple examples like, parents will make children to color apple only with red, being disciplined to sit quietly even though they want to run around and wear certain selected color (pink for girls, blue for boys) from the wardrobe.

Of course, when it comes to teaching and learning, children should be taught in a proper manner in order to shape discipline and obedient persons. But sometimes, adults might not be aware that creativity and expressiveness of a child are restricted under such environment. Well, I am born in such a family background. So, I can pretty understand the limitation when one is growing up. I think, I can be another da Vincci or Piccasso if my parents and teachers are like Dr.Diana – do whatever we want as long as it is safe and not harmful. Lol.. just joking. Be a curryegg is better =P

I guess, having such understanding about originality, genuiness and creativity, I admire my own nieces and nephews sketches. Ya, serious! Although they are simple doodles, I awed at their own artworks.

family11

family13

I love the way they approached me when we were all gathered at my grandma’s 75th birthday at a restaurant last month and they went like, “Kelly jie jie (which in fact they should call me ah yee or aunt), you see you see! Nice or not?”. One of them will jumped on my laps, another pulled my hand to win my attention and another one just non stop talking. Well, they are 4 of them starting from the age of 8, 6, 5 and 2.

family8

family9

family14

Their drawing are simple yet original. Believe me when I say this. Most adults (not even myself) is unable to draw something like this if I am to give you a pen and paper now. You will mostly draw a very straight, fine line of a house in a general and accepted way because in reality, they look that way. Or in another word, everyone should draw that ‘standard way’.

family6

I don’t really understand all these creativity and originality stuff until I learned from my lecturers and my courses. Thus, now I am a fans of children’s uncontaminated drawing. Well, it is true.

family12

From Ping Kwan – 5 years old

family15

From Guan Rue – 6 years old

 family10

Another sketches by Guan Rue – 6 years old

family16 Shing Ron – 8 years old

But these are not just the reasons of why I want to work with this population. They are some other reasons that actually intrigue my interest. Well, share next time if there is something I can relate with in future posts.

P/s: It is good to keep some of your childhood drawings because they are the most original work we have ever done without inserting others’ idea into our masterpiece. Mum has thrown away all my sketches before I turned 7. So, no more… =(

Is Thinking In The Box Not Creative?

They say it is important to always think out of the box. This is what they call, creativity.

There is a definition which defines creativity as the ability to produce work that is novel (i.e original, unexpected), high in quality and appropriate (i.e useful, meets task constraints) by Sternberg, Kaufman & Pretz 2002.

Well, I do agree with the above statements because I am a kind of person who support creative thinking.

However, I am trying hard to figure out whether is ‘think out of the box’ is synonym to creativity? How about ‘think out of the box’ equal to ‘Not to think in the box’? Let me do the equation:

Think out of the box = creativity

Think out of the box = Not to (think in the box)

Not to (think in the box) = Not (creativity)

As conclusion: Think in the box equals to not creative??

Well, if the above equation is true to you, then I would strongly disagree. Why? Because thinking in the box can enhance creativity too. You get to understand a situation better, trying something which others might have forgotten or left out, new discovery, unexpected, fun and CRAZYY!!!

mebox2

mebox1

mebox4

How do I know?

Good question. Because I did that.

mebox

I am not just thinking the box, but I am thinking in a collection of BOXES!!!

Now, I am creative or what? Lolx..

mebox3

P/s: Actually the most creative person is my cousin, the photographer who found and captured the right and interesting angle for my hilarious poses. Credit to her =)
